Using Art and Community Dialogue to Address Housing Insecurity

Daryoush Davidi recently attended the San Rafael Leadership Institute’s “Home is Where the Art Is” event, hosted by the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce. The event brought together community members, artists, and leaders to explore one of San Rafael’s most important challenges: housing insecurity.

The evening featured original artwork created by individuals with lived experiences of homelessness, along with short films that shared personal stories and perspectives often overlooked in public conversations.

The event highlighted the power of art to create understanding and encourage meaningful dialogue. By giving a platform to those directly affected by housing insecurity, “Home is Where the Art Is” helped restore dignity, increase awareness, and inspire community action.

Daryoush expressed appreciation for the San Rafael Leadership Institute class project and the organizers, artists, and community partners who brought the event to life. He believes that addressing complex issues requires listening to the experiences of residents and working together toward thoughtful, compassionate solutions.

Through continued collaboration and open conversations, San Rafael can work toward a future where every resident has the opportunity to feel secure, supported, and at home.
